Laid To Rest......

Laying to rest.....

Today we bid farewell to a very influential elder in New Orleans. Tireless giver of knowledge and life for the sake of helping his people. Stern in his convictions, and passionate about his life's work.

I first met Joseph Torregano when I was in Jr High. I had a friend who went to one of the rival schools, but he asked me to bring an arrangement to see if Mr T would play it. Mr T looked at the music, put his hand on his chin and said, "not bad young man. But if you would be so kind, get out my band room!" LOL

It wasn't until years later that I would have the pleasure of playing with him in The Original Royal Players Brass Band. Being the history buff I am, Joe was the perfect person to give me the history that I so desired (musical and personal lol). We'd have conversations for hours. My dad told me once, "son, when the elders are talking, you listen."

So, today I say, thank you elder. Your gift has been accepted. Be sure to play your favorite song, so that all of us can be lifted.

Rest in the Sweet Bye And Bye Uncle Joe.
